Damaged Textbook

As you check in your textbooks, especially NEW ones, check each one for obvious damages such as marking, water (water damage means total replacement cost), and bindings that need repair.

If a student has damaged a textbook and you wish to charge for it, do not check it in. Fill out the charge slip and send the book (s) to the library with the charge slips. Books will be returned to you after repairs have been made.
The Fine Schedule and Charge Slip forms are attached.

Rule of thumb: If you would be embarassed to send that book home with another student, charge the replacement cost, i.e. chewed by an animal, soaked with pink powerade, etc.

The Williams Settlement states that a complaint can be filed if:
"Textbooks or instructional materials are in poor or unusable condition, have missing pages, or are unreadable due to damage."
